Strength Workouts – What you Need to Find Out before You Start!
Before starting your strength workouts you need to consider a few things to ensure your best chances of success. There might be a lot more to consider when picking strength workouts than people first think.
So you need to find out a bit more before starting your strength training workout.
First, your strength workout should form part of a complete health and fitness routine, and not just considered on its own. When people fail to do this they usually end up with limited success and quit.
So, if you want the best chance to reach your strength training goals, you have got to be clear what they really are. Better strength, obviously, but is it just strength or are you looking to build huge muscles? Or are you wanting to gain strength, but get a super defined, slightly leaner physique.
What about muscle endurance and stamina? One consequence of bodybuilding can be large muscles that can suffer from burning out too fast. Sometimes this is an unfortunate effect of being too large and not having enough muscle endurance or stamina.
Endurance will be important as well as strength if you do sports such as martial arts, boxing, iron man etc.
So, as you can see, there is a lot to consider before starting muscle building workouts.
As with all exercise, building up slowly and getting expert advice is recommended. This is important with strength workouts to avoid injury, you will need to push your muscle hard to go beyond what they are normally used to. Other important factors include diet, nutrition and adequate rest time. You need to ensure that your body has time to build and repair muscles and sufficient nutrients to do this to maintain progress.
Strength workouts contain a variety of types of exercise, this ensures that you workout the many muscle groups. For example, chest workouts and abdominal workouts amongst others.
You should always start with a warm up, which may be some light cardio or small weights, then move on to the real strength exercises for the larger muscle groups first. Finally you can hit the small muscle groups and finish with a warm down.
Unless you are quite experienced in correct exercise techniques and how many reps, sets and how to choose the amount of weight, you will need expert guidance to get decent results.
The exercises will normally include lat pull downs, par bar dips, seated rows, bench presses, dumbbell presses and also dead lifts, these all require the use of some form of fitness equipment and could involve joining a gym or buying equipment for use in the home.
Some exercises that will not always use any special exercise equipment are squats or lunges, press ups and pull ups. Good strength training will require expert guidance but these exercises are generally suitable for getting started.
