How can a weight scale measure body fat?
I saw on ebay they got weight scales that tell you how fat you are, how can they measure fat
Measures body fat, weight, and hydration.
It depends on what type of body fat scale you have. It is correct that your % is based off of an electrical current, and that it travels faster through muscle, slower through fat. However- keep in mind that if the electrodes are under your feet, it’s like a circuit- bascially takes the quickest path out, so it travels up one leg, across your lower abdomen, then down the other leg. If it is one that you hold outstretched in your hands, same theory— up one arm, across chest, out other arm. So the two readings could be extremely different, based on how your body is proportioned.
In addition, your hydration level plays a part. If you are dehydrated, then you will obtain an higher BF% reading.
My advice, if you want the most accurate reading? Go to a college campus or health center who offers body fat testing. This is not just a BMI ratio or a body- fat% scale, but methods such as skin- fold calipers, “Bod-pod,” and under-water mass displacement (hydrostatic). This will get you a much more accurate estimate of your body fat percentage. I know that Ohio State, for example offers the service, and they do each method 3x, then take the average of the three to get your %. MUCH more thorough.
