WHAT IS causing this burning smell from the old mixer?
got a vintage sunbeam mixer from the 50s…anyone still use one of these? well when it start up it got a slight burning smell that decreases as it mixes but never fully goes away. what is causing this and is it still safe to use? someone online said a lot of older appliances get this smell too….but i dunno. ty.
The burnt smell comes from the brushes that rub up against the motor armature which causes sparking.The only way to stop it would be to install new brushes and have the armature dressed which would cost more than the mixer is worth.It is safe to use and will last till the brushes wear out.Don’t try to oil the brushes as that could cause a fire.
