The Fast Growing Dream Dinners
To some folks a dream dinner might be any decent food they can get for free. But Dream Dinners is also a unique food franchise that’s quickly growing. It involves locations and dinner recipes where people can go to cook according to menus, then take the food home to serve throughout the month. It’s one of those ideas that has people slapping their foreheads while exclaiming “why didn’t I think of that”?
In the modern world people maintain full schedules. Home cooked meals are becoming extinct . Even the terrific pre-made food available today in stores isn’t quite the same as home cooking. But when the typical day involves so much, who has time to cook, much less time to plan a menu or learn how to make the items on it? This franchise lives in that space.
This is how it functions. Customers select up to 14 menu meals every month. Food is then purchased by serving. Now while still at the store, they cook. Cooking experts supervise in either private or public cooking sessions. This is a lot like a chef at a restaurant coming out to direct the diners in preparing the food.
It sounds a lot more expensive that it really is. A 14 item menu costs about $3.50 per serving, with side dishes and extras like salads and potatoes purchased separately. This can bring the cost per serving for a complete meal up to around the $5 mark, but for a busy working family it’s not bad. Not only are the meals provided, but the family can enjoy the cooking experience in a setting where it’s ensured that they’ll prepare the meals the right way.
These locations are franchises people own. It has its problems. It’s not the food or menus or preparation, but rather the franchiseesSome of the franchisees aren’t happy. Forbes magazine published a detailed account of Dream Dinners in early 2008. The story didn’t look good for the company. Franchisees flocked to this brand new idea. But many of the franchisees lost their shirts after only a short time, which meant the business plan may be flawed. There may have been some misrepresentations made as to potential profits.
Business controversy aside, Dream Dinners is a wonderful concept that allows busy people living the 21st century fast-paced life a way to return to some of the home spun food value of the past decades.
