what is the difference between a keyboard with “soft touch” and a keyboard with weighted keys?
I’m trying to find a (musical) keyboard, and I want something that responds somewhat like an accoustic when you try to play loudly or softly, and something that bounces back up insanely fast after I touch a key to allow fast, clear playing. Which of the preceding phrases am I looking for?
A soft touch is a keyboard that has the organ touch feel to it. The weighted keys are based on the principle like a real piano which have hammers. When you play on weighted keys, if you hit hard, the sound wil lbe loud. Basically, you can control the volume depending on how hard you hit the key. This is not available on a soft touch. Not that some keyboards like Casio have a soft-touch keyboard with a touch-sensitive feature. If you hit the note hard, the note will be louder.
But between us, the weighted keyboard is the best and the dynamics sound way better due to the way your hand touches and the response of the keyboard itself.
