Learn MORE about Badminton Slicing Techniques To Perfect Slicing
Badminton slicing is the way of changing or shifting your racket when you come in contact with the opponent’s shuttle. Advantages of slicing techniques are:
1) It adds a spinning effect to the shuttle, causing the shuttle to travel faster, and moves in a curvilinear path, furthermore making it difficult for your opponent to face and return it.
2) Changes the direction of your shots to the opponent, deceiving opponents at the very last moment.
There are various ways of performing badminton slicing techniques.
1) Inward Slice, racket face will be facing inward at the last moment of hitting the shuttle. Even though racket will seems to make a forward motion to the opponent, instead the shuttle will eventually travel cross-court.
As a right-handed badminton player, he/she will execute an inward slice when in right corner of the badminton court.
2) Outward slice, racket face will be facing outward just before it contact with the shuttle, likewise confusing the opponent. Similarly, outward slice will be executed when he/she is in the left hand corner of court.
There are several shots that can be played using the badminton slicing techniques.
Sliced Drop Shot – used it when you are in between middle section to rear court, opponent will be deceived in believing that he will expect a smash or straight clear, but gets a drop shot which comes down more steeply as it clears the net.
Sliced Low Serve – A normal low serve, sliced to confuse the opponent, slicing it either straight or wide. For straight slicing, no change in direction of shuttle, it simple is to cause the shuttle to make a steep landing after crossing the net. For wide slicing, racket hand will move from left to right (when a right- handed person serves), the shuttle will travels to the left instead.
Sliced Smash – Confuses the opponent as to which direction the player is going to smash with sliced smashes. It is possible to direct the shuttle in direction, which is totally impossible to do when routine smashes are used.
Tumbling net shot – This shot is done by softly slicing the shuttle right at the bottom of its base, causing the shuttle to spin upside down and land faster upon crossing the net. This move will cause the opponent to panic as
1) the shuttle falls faster than normal netting techniques.
2) He/she would not be able to plan his strokes properly until the shuttle corrects itself from the awkward spin, reason being, it is almost impossible to execute a perfect clear/net when feather of shuttle is downwards.
