Physics Question, finding the force of the scale caused by the weight of water?
Water falls without splashing at a rate of 0.240 L/s from a height of 2.70 m into a 0.530 kg bucket on a scale. If the bucket is originally empty, what does the scale read 3.40 s after water starts to accumulate in it
Vw = √(2gh) = 7.27 m/s
Force due to momentum of water being stopped by the bucket:
Fm = ṁ*dV = .24 kg/s*7.27 m/s = 1.745 N
Weight of bucket + water @ 3.40 sec W = g*(.53+.24*3.40) = 13.19 N
Scale reading R = W+Fm = 14.94 N
