Make Your Own Baby Diaper Cake
When you decide to give a baby diaper cake as a gift and you want to make one yourself rest assured that they really are not difficult to construct. Among the items you will need to make the cake are about sixty-six disposable diapers that are for newborns and an equal number of small rubber elastic bands. You will also need larger bands so make sure you have about five on hand. For the base of the cake you will need a ten inch round base that you can make using cardboard.
To decorate the cake decide if you are making one for a girl or a boy. If the sex of the baby is not known then a unisex cake would obviously be the better choice. Decorations will need to include some ribbon. It is preferable to have more than one width of ribbon so choose one that is three inches wide and one that is one inch wide. A 4 oz and an 8 oz baby bottle is also needed so make sure you have these on hand.
Once you have all these components you can then begin with the actual assembling of the cake. This really is not difficult and actually, folding the diapers is probably the trickiest part. All you really need to do is to open up each diaper and then roll it from the back to the front. When you have done that you secure it closed by using one of the small elastic bands. Using the larger of the two baby bottles simply stack the six of the diapers on their ends around the baby bottle on the cardboard base. This is when you will need one of the larger elastic bands because in order to keep the diapers in position around the bottle you will need to wrap the band around them.
Now the really complicated part comes. You will have to insert another twenty-seven rolled diapers into the band so that you end up with thirty-three diapers around the baby bottle. Once you have completed this you will have made your first tier of the cake. Of course you need to make sure that the diapers form a circle so that the cake is not misshapen.
Just as with the first layer you now do the second using six diapers and place them on their ends on the first tier. Again, secure them with the bands and then add another sixteen in the same method as before. Using the smaller of the two baby bottles place it on top of the other one and then make a third tier in the same way. You will probably have to part the diapers in order to put the bottle in place. Once the three tiers are complete you can then go ahead and decorate the cake. Use the ribbons to hide the elastic bands and attach items like baby socks, pacifiers, bibs and even toys using diaper pins.
