Spend Your Money on Something Other Than Wedding Favours
We are in a global recession and weddings are expensive… I’m sure neither of these things is new to anyone who is busy planning a wedding. Though the church rental, dress, and honeymoon costs are difficult to avoid, there are plenty of ways to save money by cutting back costs on small things. One small aspect of planning a wedding that builds up to a very large cost is what goes on the table and out the door with the guests at the end—wedding favours. It is traditional to provide the guests of any wedding with a small present to thank them for their presence at the wedding and to commemorate the bride and groom’s special day, but special does not have to be expensive because:
People Like Food
One of the reasons many people cite as why they even go to weddings is the excitement at the anticipation of a well-organized reception. If you are already spending money on a caterer or taking the time to organize your own reception and cook your own food, why not go the extra mile and let guests take food home? Organizing “sample bags” for each guest to take a bit of the magic home with them. They will appreciate it and you can add it to your budget instead of coming up with an entirely different wedding favour category. But some advice to remember—your lovely seafood assortment may not be as good the next day, so stick with desserts and candies. Be discerning. Another creative way to utilize food is to make wedding table decorations with it. Particularly with fruit and vegetables, food can be beautiful if arranged properly.
People Like Things that Help Them Remember
The point of wedding favours is to prove yourself to be a gracious host while simultaneously making sure that everyone remembers your wedding forever. Because of this, anything involving a picture makes for a great wedding favour. Something cute to do is to cut out the newspaper announcement of your wedding or engagement (depending on how many newspapers you can get a hold of) and set it to some kind of background to match your theme. Many websites and office-type stores can put a picture on literally anything. Magnets to go on the fridge or coffee mugs, t-shirts, etc. will immortalize your wedding. Though this may seem like an expensive thing to do, if you buy in bulk or try the picture in black and white tones (which can be more romantic anyway), you can cut costs and create a memorable wedding favours.
Discount Doesn’t Mean Poor Quality
Typical wedding favours like commemorative napkins or shot glasses can always be found in bulk for much cheaper than you would expect, especially with the advent of online shopping. If you don’t feel like getting creative or simply don’t have the time to create your own wedding favours, look at online stores for ideas to replicate or for a cheap way to buy.
