Why can’t I remove the lid from the carafe for my coffee maker?

I had a Mr Coffee coffee maker; now I have another brand. I think it would be nice if I could get the lid off the carafe to make for easier washing up. This would also allow the carafe to fit better in a drying rack (or maybe even allow it to be put in a dishwasher!)
It’s a hinged lid, and may be able to be pulled off, but I don’t want to break it in the process. The instruction booklet says nothing about this.

Is it a twist top or hinge lid? You could break it either way and stick it in the dishwasher, but I don’t know if that would be good for it, so that’s your call. Just carefully try and twist it off or pop it out.
