My clothes dryer blows fuses when I turn on the high heat cycle.?
My electric dryer works fine until I turn the high heat cycle on. Then it blows a fuse and I have nothing but cold air. If I keep it on medium heat, it works fine. I have checked out the vent and it is clear. It is a 2005 electrical whirlpool with a lot of bells and whisles.
Your question makes me scratch my head.
If you run it on HIGH HEAT it blows a fuse AND I HAVE NOTHING BUT COLD AIR.
So it still runs? Just doesn’t heat?
If this is the case you may have burned out the THERMAL FUSE and the dryer itself won’t let the element heat when you set the dryer on high heat. Most dryers have 2 thermal fuses. Unlike a thermostate they don’t reset, they need to be replaced if they go bad.
Go to one of the DIY sites to see how to test it (I’ve included my favorite below). I think all you need is a multimeter to test.
If it trips the breaker and doesn’t work then, like Peter said, you’ve overloaded your circuit, (tripping the breaker) and you need to upgrade that circuit, or always use the medium setting.
If your screen name is an indication of your trade, I’d have an electrician buddy look at it and trade some carpentry work for it.
