Using the Sun’s Heat with Solar Thermal Electric Power
Heating and cooling costs account for a large percentage of a home's energy needs during the summer and winter. However, heating extends beyond the temperature of your home. Gallons of water need to be kept at hot temperatures, and the water heater also requires significant energy needs. Many home owners are familiar with solar panels that are increasingly popular atop homes, providing a portion of a home's electrical needs. Unfortunately, many home owners are completely in the dark about a similar technology. Solar thermal electric power is another technology that uses the power of sunlight, not with photovoltaic cells to turn the sunlight into electricity but rather to use the heat towards useful purposes.
Power of the Sun
Solar thermal electric power is becoming a viable alternative to supplement your heating and cooling needs. Before, it was prohibitively expensive for mainstream use, but it's now cheap enough to be used widely. It works by pulling the heat energy out of sunlight, heating up liquid, then circulating that liquid throughout a home. Obviously, this liquid can be used to heat water and the temperature of your home, but solar thermal electric power can also be used to cool your home as well, surprisingly. With the thermal properties of air, it's possible to use that heat energy to create a draft through your home, cooling the temperature down to a comfortable level during the summer.
If you want a complete solar power solution, then you need to check out a solar electric power company to get all of your energy needs met. They can provide photovoltaic panels, generators, transformers, and any other equipment that you might require. A variety of companies like General Electric have all of the solar thermal electric power equipment that you need to install the system yourself. Of course, you can always have an electrician install the equipment for you, but many people with a minimal knowledge of electrical work decide to install solar thermal electric power systems themselves. It doesn't take much in the way of knowledge, and the possible savings on the installation costs are enormous. In the end, it is entirely up you and what you feel comfortable with doing.
For the cost of a new car, you can help the environment and save thousands of dollars a year. Your solar thermal electric power system will pay itself off within a decade, and then you'll be able to use it for as long as you own the house. Needless to say, such a system would make it much easier to sell your home if potential buyers knew that they would not have to pay heating and cooling costs. Trustworthy companies like GE are ready to supply all of the quality equipment you need, and you can limit your dependence on the power companies within just a few weeks.
