Using the Correct Coarse Fishing Tackle for Successful Chub & Bream Fishing
Coarse fishing is a popular variant of angling that’s found throughout the UK. Due to the high number of fish labelled “coarse”, fishermen must make a point of understanding the nature of their specific prey and selecting their fishing tackle accordingly. In this piece, we’ll look at the best choices for coarse fishing tackle based on the kind of fish.
Coarse Fishing – A Summary
Earlier on in the history of our country, gentry were the sole people who made a sport from fishing. Trout and salmon were the exclusive types of fish of interest as well. These fishing “experts” thought of other fish as less valuable. As a result, such species were considered “coarse”. Two well-admired coarse fishing species are bream and chub.
Coarse Fishing Tackle -
Bream
Bream can be found at the bottom surface of Lakes, slow moving rivers, and canals. Bream are shoal fish by nature, so the presence of one is a good indicator there’s more nearby. For a worthwhile fishing expedition, choose a fishing rod 9’ to 13’ long. Secure a fixed spool fishing reel onto the fishing rod and implement a three to six pound test line. Hook size is contingent on the bait used. Hooks numbered 10-16 need to be reserved for maggots and worms, meanwhile number six to ten hooks are terrific for bread and large lobs (earthworms). Additional bait consist of things like sweetcorn and brandlings. Brandlings are a subspecies of earthworm noticeable in decaying organic material compost. Bream can live approximately two decades and weigh nearly seven pounds (though the nation’s record is roughly 16.5 lbs).
Chub
Dace and chub look alike, except the chub’s anal fin is convex. These species can be found in running water and tend to frequent spots where there are overhanging trees. Chub also hang around ponds and lakes. Use fixed spool fishing reels as well as fishing rods 9-11 ft. in length. The line should be able to take 3-5 pounds. Ideal hooks are numbered six through sixteen. You could try maggots, strong cheese, luncheon meat, bread, casters and plugs. Casters refer to the chrysalis period of the maggot and plugs are simulated lure that are in the form of a fish and shake as they are pulled through the lake. Chub live 10-12 years and the British record is 8 lbs., 10 oz. A normal one weighs around 5 lbs.
