Christmas and New Year’s in Surrey
Unsure of how to bring in the holidays in Surrey? Here are some fab ideas.
1. Festive Food:
Polesden Lacey- an Edwardian house that is run by the National Trust and one their most visited properties. Polesden Lacey has open-air performing facilities which are used to host a variety of musical and theatrical events.
This holiday the Polesden Lacey will host the Edwardian Christmas Dinner Dance in its Courtyard Restaurant, on the 18th of December. For £40 a head, guests can enjoy a three-course meal, coffee and dancing.
Then on Sunday December 26 and Saturday January 1 guests can enjoy a Boxing or New Year’s Day Brunch from 10am-4pm.

2. Christmas Markets:
Chocolate Festival at Kingston Christmas Market- a paradise for chocolate lovers, Kingston market’s chocolate festival will have truffles, bonbons, chocolate-making workshops, tastings, and baking demonstrations. There is also a German market in the square where guests can enjoy mulled wine, beer, bratwurst, goulash, and hot chestnuts. The market will also include fashion, jewellery and crafts stands. Really, there is something for everyone to enjoy this year at the Kingston Christmas Market.
Evitavonni- for those people in the market for luxury Christmas gifts, try to make it to Evitavonni’s market before 3pm on Christmas Eve. There you will find everything from scented candles, cashmere scarves, champagne glasses, to designer pillows. It’s also a great place to pick up Christmas decorations or partake in events and workshops.
3. New Year’s Eve:
Mandolay Hotel, Guilford: All are invited to bring in 2011 with a night of dinner, dancing and entertainment at the Mandolay Hotel, Guilford. Prices range from £15-£65 depending on ticket type.
Barnett Hill: for £85 pp guests can celebrate the arrival of 2011 with an elegant, six-course gourmet dinner. Each dish will be accompanied by a delicious complimentary wine. After dinner, company can relax while listening to a live band or watching a magician perform a show.
It seems that the people of Surrey like to celebrate the holidays in style. With lots of pre-organized soirees and fabulous markets Surrey residents and visitors alike will have lots of keep them occupied this season. For those feeling like escaping all of the food and drink for a moment there are many tourist attractions around, including the chance to go for a romantic hot air balloon ride!
