How do I get rid of that green layer in my marine aquarium?
Hey guys. I have a 120L saltwater Fish only with live rock aquarium. I have 2 tomato clownfish, 2 yellow tail damsels one goby and one cleaner shrimp. There is a green layer in my aquarium, How do I get rid of it?. My protein skimmer is running fully, it is a red sea protein skimmer. I was just wondering if I get a biger protein skimmer will it clean better.I have a canister 400 L/H filter with 2 sponges and ceramic rings. Is there anything that I can put in the filter to make my tank crystal clean (the water). and one more thing, if I add algae grazing snails ( turbo etc.) will my ammonia increase because I can’t afford more ammonia producers, I have a lot of things. Please Help. Thanx
All you really need to add to get rid of the green layer (I’m assuming it’s algae) is to add snails. Snails add very little bioload, so you should be fine. The clean up crew (CUC) consisting of snails like turbos and ceriths and maybe hermit crabs, is one of the most important parts of an aquarium to keep it clear of algae.
To make your water cleaner, you can add carbon to your filter. You really don’t need the ceramic rings because your live rock functions as surface area for beneficial bacteria so you can replace the ceramic rings with carbon.
