Stand Mixers for Busy Kitchens

The KitchenAid Artisan Series stand mixer is normally the mixer many customers visualize when they think about stand mixers. KitchenAid has been producing some form of this mixer for decades, and it might provide the best stand mixer available today. Hamilton Beach’s model is only available in six colors, and is noticeably lighter than the KitchenAid model, so it has an annoying habit of “walking” across the counter when wrestling with a particularly heavy amount of dough. With all that, though, Hamilton Beach makes a very good stand mixer for around $180.
Cuisinart is one more brand with a respectable record of making thoughtfully engineered machines, and the heavy-duty Cuisinart SM-55 will keep this company’s reputation clean. This 800-watt appliance is lightweight enough to be toted easily, but stable enough so that it doesn’t do a bread dough waltz. This mixer has the standard whisk, dough hook and paddle attachments and also a splash guard in keeping with the other two examples. One thing Cuisinart incorporates which makes the mixer stand out is a timer.
You could actually enable the timer and walk along to attend to another job, and the SM-55 will turn off when the mixing is finished. The motor has a very liberal 5-year warranty, and there is an endless group of attachments which can be purchased separately, including a pasta maker and a meat grinder. The Cuisinart SM-55 is available in black, white and brushed chrome, and will run you around $250.
