how to get into the roller coaster engineering industry?
ever seance i rode my first roller coaster [big bad wolf in Bush gardens VA] i have had an obsession for them. i love roller coasters and i want to build them. i was wondering what digress or courses i need to take in high school or collage. im already certified in auto cad 2008 and have taken several architectural courses.
A degree in mechanical engineering would be a great start. If that is not your thing, keep in mind there is also electrical work on coaster to run the ride plus the creative side of the ride effects. CAD is a big help. SolidWorks may be another program you want to look into. There is also a ton of administration things like scheduling, purchasing and so forth.
Keep you eyes open, it is a REALLY close industry and hard to get into. Many companies offer internships for engineering studentss, that is a great way to get your foot in the door. Go to coaster shows (IAAPA is the big one, in Vegas in Nov this year I think) and just try to make connections.
That is from the manufactor side, you can alway start at a park as say, something simple, ride operator, ticket taker ect and work your way up. Alot of the top employeess at parks (CEO, VP’s ect) started there 20 years ago at the bottom. Show dedication and be willing to work hard! Don’t give up.
